YMCA Lakeside is a very busy and highly respected Outdoor Adventure and Education residential centre. We are known for delivering inspirational, exciting and challenging outdoor adventures for personal and social development. We are looking for great staff to join our team, take on real responsibility and contribute to our success.
These are important and responsible positions, as our clients expect great quality outdoor education and adventure programmes. Our clients include schools, colleges, youth-groups, corporate and family, which gives you a great opportunity to learn and develop, broaden your instructional skills and deepen your understanding of "Learning Outside the Classroom". Many staff have the opportunity to extend contracts for one or two months into the autumn. This year 16 staff worked through October and some staff are working until the end of November.
Based in the southern Lake District on the edge of Windermere with ½ mile of shoreline we are ideally placed for water-sports. Climbing is served by our three climbing crags which together with many of our other activities are based in the 450 acres of woodland surrounding us. For bigger adventures, and in your own time too, there are the Mountains, Crags, Caves, Rivers and Lakes all around us.
Peak season is 7th May to 26th August and starts with 7 intense days of paid induction training from highly qualified and experienced staff, and concentrates on ensuring you can deliver your own area of expertise and a core range of other activities.
We will pay you £7.20 per hour, and give you the option of subsidised on-site accommodation and meals. We also issue you with high quality a Keela Waterproof Jacket and Keela Softshell for the season.
You need a RYA Dinghy Instructor Qualification and one other NGB training in any of the following: Summer ML, SPA, RYA Dinghy Instructor plus Safety boat or BCU L1 Coach plus a 3* and will be able to demonstrate a good level of previous instructional experience.
We are looking for committed, enthusiastic individuals to join our dedicated Housekeeping team. This is no ordinary House Keeping position, with a variety of client needs and facilities to care for, we are looking for individuals who enjoy getting stuck in, can pay attention to detail and have a commitment to provide our clients with facilities to the highest of standards and excellent customer service. Hours are negotiable, up to a maximum of 35 hours a week and term time only considered. £11,921pa pro rata, £7.20 per hour.
This is designed for those of you who do not have sufficient qualifications and or experience yet. We offer you the chance to join our team and learn on the job. If you gain the NGBs and demonstrate the skills during the season we will upgrade you to an Instructor contract. Extended volunteering opportunities into the autumn are usually available. We find that volunteers who are serious about a career in the outdoors and ready to make the best of all the opportunities available get the most from this programme. As well as part uniform, full training and induction, meals and accommodation we give you £50 a week towards your expenses.

You will receive 1 week’s intensive training in what you will need to learn and then you will spend 4 weeks, Monday to Friday as leaders within our Day Camp Programme.
