Add to your skills with our INSET outdoor education workshop
More and more studies show that outdoor education, which provides opportunities for active and experiential learning, benefits young people both mentally and physically.
But did you know that many of the skills and techniques used in our outdoor education and adventure courses can also be used effectively in your school grounds, or nearby green areas?
As teachers, you’ll know more than anyone that different children learn in different ways. Outdoor education has shown to be effective at engaging children who find traditional classroom environments more challenging.
We’ve created a one-day outdoor education skills programme designed especially for teachers. The hands-on course shows you how to design your own outdoor education module as well as providing you with ready-to-use ideas and lesson plans that can benefit your class.
Tony Ball, Programme Operations Manager, said:
“The course is about giving teachers even more skills and tools to help young people. We’ll give them the confidence to see the outdoors as an extra teaching resource, and how to use this different environment to help young people learn.”
Taking INSET days outdoors
The one-day course is ideal for INSET days and can work in one of two ways:
1. Lakeside visit
Your team can get to grips with the outdoors at our Lakeside Centre on the shores of Lake Windermere. We’ll provide on-site overnight accommodation (if required) meals and training at cost.
2. Local hub
If there’s sufficient interest within a particular area, and a suitable outdoor space for the training to take place, our trainers can come to you and host the event at a local school.
