Are you looking for great value childcare they’ll love this Easter?

It’s the same problem every year – how do you keep the kids entertained and safe during the school holidays? And, with busy working lives, how do you manage childcare? Especially when your children are getting older and want to do more than most out of school clubs offer. At Lakeside, we’ve been running summer holiday Day Camps for more than half a century and now, for the first time, we’re running our day camps during the Easter holidays.

What are Lakeside Day Camps?

Think about our Day Camps as childcare with an adventurous twist. For the same price as many out of school clubs, your child will be cared for at Lakeside from 9.15am to 4.30pm, while enjoying the dozens of outdoor activities we offer. From kayaking to zip wires and king swing to canoeing, they’ll have the opportunity to try something new. That’s not all. We see young people on our Day Camps grow in confidence as they make new friends, learn new skills and have a huge amount of fun. “It’s fantastic seeing these young people grow in confidence as they overcome their fears and achieve things they thought were impossible,” says Mike Margeson, Lakeside Chief Instructor. “Our Day Camps are giving children a taste of the outdoors as well as skills for life.”

How do the Day Camps work?

Day Camps run Monday to Friday, 9.15am to 4.30pm over the Easter school holiday period. You can book for the entire holiday, a week or a single day. All activities will be tailored to your child’s age and ability.

When do the Day Camps run?

We’ve introduced 3 weekly camps for Easter and a special Spooktacular Halloween Day Camp for the October half-term holiday.  All the dates are available online and the details for Easter 2018 are below:
  • Easter week 1:  Monday 26th March – Friday 30 March
  • Easter week 2: Monday 2nd April – Friday 6 April
  • Easter week 3: Monday 9th April – Friday 13th April

What age groups do we cater for?

To make sure that everyone gets the most out of their Lakeside experience, we’re operating 2  age groups, and tailor our activities to the child’s age and ability:
  • 8-9 years
  • 10-14 years

How much do Day Camps cost?

As a registered charity, we only need to cover the cost of running our Day Camps so we can keep our prices as low as possible, as you’ll see below:
  • 8-9 years – £27.00 per day or £134.00 per week (5 x weekdays).
  • 10-14 years – £34.00 per day or £164.00 per week (5 x weekdays).

Do we have to live nearby?

Not necessarily. While most of the young people on our Day Camps live within an hour’s drive of Windermere, we also welcome young people from all over the country. Parents – and sometimes grandparents – visit the Lakes and treat their children to one of our Day Camp weeks as part of their holiday. It gives the adults an opportunity to do their thing while the young people are enjoying themselves at Lakeside. Everyone can then get back together as a family for the evening.

Is transport included?

If you live on our bus route, you can sign up for our transport service, which costs an additional £9 per day or £44 per week, per child. The route for Easter and Halloween camps covers Barrow, Dalton and Ulverston. Click here to download the full schedule detailing all stops.

Is special equipment needed?

We provide all specialist equipment, including harnesses, wetsuits, life jackets and helmets. But your child is likely get dirty, and it can be cold and wet – even in summer – so they’ll need outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. We’ll email you a suggested clothing list if you like. It’s hungry work though, so they’ll also need a packed lunch, snacks and plenty to drink.

Is it safe?

Your child’s safety is our top priority. For your peace of mind, we have all necessary accreditations, including Adventuremark, British Activity Provider Association (BAPA) and Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge (LOtC). We also have other qualifications that set us apart from the crowd. For instance, we’re an official training centre for the Royal Yachting Association, meaning that we actually train yachting instructors! Our instructors are fully qualified, DBS checked and must pass our rigorous in-house training programme before they work for us.
