Haweswater Reservoir is one of the larger bodies of water. It’s 4 miles long, ½ mile wide and 200 feet deep.
Did you know?
Construction of Haweswater started in 1929 on the site of the farming villages of Measand and Mardale Green. The farms and houses of Mardale and Measand were pulled down, coffins were removed from the graveyard and buried elsewhere and the church demolished. In times of drought, it’s sometimes possible to see what remains of Mardale village.
