Mountain Training qualifications train and assess people to look after other people in the hills and mountains of the UK, whether that’s leading a walk in the mountains, coaching in a climbing wall or teaching multi pitch rock climbing.

YMCA Lakeside is a provider for Mountain Training England (provider number 588). Whether you are on a training or assessment programme we are committed to providing you with a quality learning experience, with experienced instructors who love the outdoors. As a longstanding and established training provider you can rest assured that you will be in safe hands with us.

As well as offering training and assessment courses, YMCA Lakeside can also provide both pre and post assessment refreshers in any aspect of the syllabus. If the course you’re looking for isn’t listed here or you don’t meet the criteria for Mountain Leader Training then please give us a call to discuss your personal requirements on 015394 39000 and we will be happy to talk you through your options.

People who hold our qualifications have been assessed at a nationally agreed standard and may be volunteers, youth workers, outdoor instructors or teachers. Of course many intrepid explorers come to us simply looking to be educated and trained so that they can safely enjoy the climbing walls, crags, coast, hills and mountains of our beautiful countryside.

Mountain training believes in inspiring people from all backgrounds to enjoy walking, climbing and mountaineering with confidence and skill.
Mountain Leader Award

The Mountain Leader Award trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hill walking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. If you love the outdoors and want to take your passion one step further to enable you to share your enthusiasm with others, then this is the course for you!
